THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE VISITNG HO CHI MINH CITY - SAIGON

1. TRANSPORT
Worrying that you will be con by taxi drivers in foreign country?

NO WORRIES!

With GRAB & UBER you will never have to worry!

Their service is DEFINITELY A FAIR DEAL !

You can get them in many cities without worrying of being con as fares will be reflected in the app before you decided to book a taxi with them.

Traveling around Ho Chi Minh is real cheap & affordable. 

For instant, it only cost me 90000 VND which is about SGD 5.63 (Currency conversion rate of 16000)  to GRAB to The White 1 Hotel (I'm not recommending this hotel to you stay tune for the 2 hotels which I've stayed in my upcoming post!) from Tan Son Nhat International airport. 

Alternatively, you may flag down local taxis.

I will recommend VINASUN – With green and red stripe, everywhere you go in the city.
Charges via meter.

2. MONEY CHANGER
Uhhh huhh.. What happens if you overspent and didn't have your credit card with you?

Here comes sourcing for money changer with GOOD RATES!

In Ho Chi Minh City, you will hardly see money changer signboard.

You may visit gold jewelry shops to check out rates for currency change for better rates.

You can change currency at your hotel too if you don't mind the rate difference.

From my experience is about 1000 - 1500 VND to 1 SGD but this save the hassle of you spending time sourcing for jewelry shops around.

3. DATA SIM CARD

You can grab a prepaid sim card upon exiting the airport.
Always source for the best deal!

I got mine on the extreme left, last stall upon exiting the airport.

5 GB data @ 105 000 VND

You can actually get 1 and share hotspot with people whom you travel with - Cost Saving!

Usually stalls nearest to the exit will mark up slightly about 150 000 VND

With 5 GB data sharing hotspot with my partner is sufficient for my 4D3N trip.

4. USD USED AT DEPATURE HALL

Do take note that US Currency is used at departure hall.

Of course they do accept other currencies at their conversion rate. There is a board listing the currency conversion and as usual it is definitely not worth it.

There is a Burger King before entering airport and it is charged at VND.

To be frank, I only started traveling when I was 24 
(just a few years back =P).
I had a hard time gathering information sourced online. I guess everyone had experienced that on their first visit to a new country.
Piecing information found, etc. Thinking back the process was quite tedious.
Having said that, people often say "Practice makes PERFECT!"
